Jordan Latimer Overcomes Adversity For Pair of Top-10’s at Sunset Speedway

Despite facing adversity in a couple different ways at Sunset Speedway on Saturday night, Jordan Latimer still put together a pair of top-10 finishes.

Setting the 16th quickest time in qualifying, he would start the feature from 11th following a series of post-qualifying technical inspection disqualifications. From there, he looked to move forward, battling Nick Goetz for 10th in the early stages. Unfortunately, contact happened in the process, resulting in a flat tire at Lap 8. The JL Motorsports got the tire changed quickly, with some help from Ridge Road Racing, returning to the field at the tail.

Restarting from the back of the field, Latimer began to make his way forward, back inside of the top-10 as the halfway mark. Restarting 10th following the third caution, he would pass Connor James for eighth, getting alongside Paul Maltese for seventh at Lap 22. Latimer was unable to complete the pass, ultimately fading in the final stretch to cross the finish line in ninth.

Starting seventh for the second 35-lap feature, he managed to avoid a wreck ahead of him at the halfway mark, running eighth with 24 laps on the board. He would be challenged for the spot, but managed to hold off the charge, getting alongside Billy Zardo for seventh instead. Latimer got the spot with three laps to go, crossing the finish line in seventh. It was discovered post-race by the JL Motorsports crew that the race had been tougher than they thought, with suspension damage sustained along the way.

JL Motorsports is proud to be supported by DDC General Contracting, RIM Chassis, KICX 106, 104.1 The Dock, WIX Filters, Creechers Design, Kruger’s Electrical Service, Tax-$mart, and Kitchen Tire.

Jordan Latimer Suffers Mechanical Failure at Sunset Speedway

Jordan Latimer looked poised to have another strong run at Sunset Speedway on Saturday night, when a mechanical failure would see his feature end early.

With the Sunset Speedway Late Models running a 60-lap main event instead of twin 35-lap features, they’d run a single heat to help set the starting line-up. He would put together a solid performance, scoring a third-place finish.

Come feature time, he’d find himself battling for eighth with Thayne Hallyburton in the early stages, until a pair of leaders made contact up ahead, causing a flat tire and caution. Restarting seventh, he’d battle with Taylor Holdaway for the position. The first few laps didn’t go as planned after the green flag, though, as he’d fall back to ninth by Lap 17. Unfortunately, the fade continued, as he’d run 12th by Lap 25.

He continued to run 12th, solidly quickly clicking off laps, before making his way down pit road under green at Lap 54. It was determined that a spark plug had come off the No. 90 Late Model, which was the reason for being down in horsepower. He’d be credited with an 18th-place finish.

Latimer will be back at Sunset Speedway on May 26 in hope of scoring his second top-five of the 2018 campaign.

Jordan Latimer Rebounds for Top-Five in Second Feature

After struggling a little in the first feature, the JL Motorsports team was able to rebound for a top-five in the second on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.

Racing on the 10-inch tire for the first time, the handling of the No. 90 Late Model was a little off in the first feature, seeing Latimer run mid-pack throughout en route to a 13th-place finish.

Making some adjustments before the second feature, Latimer quickly began to move up from the 13th starting spot to run eighth as of Lap 5. He would miss an incident at Lap 12, to move up to sixth under the third caution.  Although he dropped back to seventh on the initial restart, he’d avoid another accident with seven laps to go to run sixth.

He was then able to make a pass on the final restart, crossing the finish line in the fifth position.

Latimer will be back at Sunset Speedway this coming weekend, May 12, for the first 60-lap feature of the season.

Latimer is currently in the process of getting ready for his fourth season of competition at Sunset Speedway.

“The goal for 2018 season is to go out and be better we were in 2017,” he said. “Hopefully grab a couple feature wins and I’m confident in the work we are going to be putting in this winter we can compete for a championship.”

With nine top-fives and 17 top-10’s, Latimer put together an impressive season at Sunset Speedway en route to placing seventh in the year-end standings. He was also able to score his first career Late Model victory on September 2.

“2017 was a big year,” he said. “I don’t remember a night all summer where we unloaded and didn’t feel like we weren’t going to be running up front competing for the win! Looking back on the season as a hole I think it was a huge success. We only had one weekend where we were caught up in a wreck so that’s huge! Gave us a lot of time to work on set up and not on body work. We had multiple shots for a win this season, whether it was off a late restart, tire strategy, or just starting position compared to other drivers. But it felt really good going out this season competing up front compared to our prior season and the luck we had then.”

Krueger Electrical Services joins previously announced KICX 106, 104.1 The Dock, WIX Filters, Creechers Design, and Kitchen Tire as sponsors for 2018.
